Maurice D. Barnes

Maurice D. Barnes was born June 28, 1946 in Winston Salem North Carolina to Essie Curry Barnes and the late  Joseph Barnes who went home to be with the Lord in October of 1981. Maurice is a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Rutgers University and a Masters in Divinity from Drew University graduating 1993 in Madison, New Jersey.


Everyone who knows Reverend Barnes knows of his love of music. It is his most cherished hobby. In fact, he’s so talented that he has sung with the North Jersey Philharmonic Glee Cub in Orange, NJ for 27 years, and is also a 30 year member of the Essex Chorale’s choir. Reverend Barnes is also known for belting out a few good songs during Sunday services.


Reverend Barnes was married to the late Victoria Lewis Barnes for 21 years and from this union four children were born: Maurice Joseph, Andre Dana, Lisa Anne, and Nicole Gilead Barnes. Reverend Barnes, being obedient to the word of God as written in Proverbs 18:22 as “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favor of the Lord,” married Mrs. Esther Cantry Barnes, and from this union two children were born Matthew James and Jacqueline Jonah Barnes.


Aside from preaching the word of God, Reverend Barnes has been a substitute teacher in the Orange, NJ school system for the past seven years. Reverend Barnes has a philosophy that corresponds to his 15 years in the Christian ministry serving as an African Methodist Episcopal Minister.
